Flora and Fauna

The forests and high hills are the habitat of some rare species, protected by regional laws since the seventies of the twentieth century. In open and rocky areas of the mountain Supramonte is still possible to observe the mouflon, a wild sheep, the male, agile climber despite its grandeur, has a large spiral horns pointing backward.

The peaks of the mountain Gennargentu host several raptors, including the golden eagle, the goshawk and the kite. The Sardinian deer finds residence in the cork oak and conifer woods of southern Sardinia. In the magnificent natural environment of the Giara of Gesturi, where the cork oak woods alternate with wide areas of pastureland dotted with Asphodelus Mediterranean brush and tall, made up of lentisk, olive, strawberry tree and Juniper, the wild horses graze, small and slender animals, with a brown coat and a long mane, perhaps direct descendents of the Arabic horses brought into Sardinia by the Punic civilization.

The relief
